L2 Planet Issue #19
In this Issue of L2 Planet, we focused on the developments regarding Boba, Canvas, Tusima, Immutable X, and StarkNet Ecosystem.
Multi-chain L2 King: Boba
Boba Network announced a partnership with Avalanche to bring Layer-2 solutions to Avalanche Network toward Boba’s multi-chain L2 vision.
Currently, the details of the partnership are unclear. Will Boba be a service provider for potential Optimistic Rollup Subnets or will build just its own Optimistic Rollup on top of Avalanche Network? But, according to the announcement, we know that SushiSwap and EvoVerses will be Boba’s launch partner dApps. If you wanna learn more about this partnership, check out the past AMA event.
Canvas Connect: DeFi Pooling
Canvas announced the Canvas Connect testnet and planning to launch the mainnet on December 28.
The mission of Canvas Connect is to onboard the next billion people to DeFi. Canvas Connect allows traditional Web2 businesses to easily integrate into DeFi destinations, without having to trust any centralized or off-chain activity. Also, It is easy to integrate with APIs and SDKs. It basically allows users to invest, trade, and transfer without gas fees. Canvas Connect was built by a partnership with Starkware and Fireblocks. It uses zk-STARKs and DeFi Pooling technics for gasless transactions.
For example, a Canvas user wants to trade on Uniswap. StarkEx collects users who want to trade on Uniswap. Pooled users share transaction fees. It will be cheaper than doing the same transaction as an individual on L1. It is exciting to see applications of DeFi Pooling.
Tusima Tesnet is Live
Tusima Network announced its testnet and waiting for users’ feedback.
Users are able to get Tusima DAO SBT (Soul Bound Token) reward when they complete the test. 3 days after the announcement, the team announced maintenance of the Tusima testnet due to high demand. Now, the testnet is back online.
Aztec Network
Aztec Network introduced DCA, Dollar Cost Averaging, a new and fully private way to interact with Uniswap on L2.
Aztec Network introduced Noir, a Rust-based DSL (Domain-Specific Language) for creating and verifying zero-knowledge proofs.
Aztec Network made an upgrade to Aztec that removes a layer of trust from the Aztec core team: The subsidy contract.
Aztec Network introduced the idea of the ERC-4626 bridge which allows the integration of the yield protocols easier.
StarkNet Ecosystem
Starkware published an article about upcoming network regenesis. StarkNet will start from a new genesis block with the existing state and will work only with Cairo 1.0.
Users and developers have to take action in the transition period. Users should be prepared to update their wallets during the transition phase and developers should be required to port their contracts to Cairo 1.0. The team aims to migrate to a fully Cairo 1.0-based network by the end of Q1 2023.
