L2 Planet Issue #7
In this Issue of L2 Planet, we focused on the developments regarding Mina, zkSync, StarkNet and Polygon.
Mina is Forming Its Layer 2
With their motto ‘’World’s Lightest Blockchain‘’, has started form a layer 2 onto their previously existing network.
Mina is a blockchain that uses the zkSNARK zero knowledge proof, and their block sizes are 22kb. Even though Mina is the lightest blockchain, is has low transaction per second. Mina might want to solve this problem with the help of zkRollup.
zkRollup will be installed onto the Mina Network and this Rollup Network will enable faster and cheaper transactions. The proof and data of transactions will be sent to Mina Network’s smart contract. This will solve the throughput problem of the network. Currently, the launching date of the zkRollup is unknown, but for more information you can check out this blog post by Mina.
$200m for the zkSync Ecosystem
Previously, zkDAO was formed with the collaboration of zkSync and BitDAO to support the zkSync ecosystem and to accelerate the layer 2 adaptation.
Regarding the recent proposal results, BitDAO approved that the $200m-worth fund which is formed by a variety of crypto currency, should be managed by zkDAO.
According to the proposal, the fund will be shared in five installments of $40m. With each installment, there will be vote on the success and accomplishments of the project. For more information click here. Here is the expected distribution of the funds:
Starknet is Warming Up
With its transition to Mainnet initiated almost two months ago, the developer activity on this network is continuing to increase. Because there are no existing bridges on the network for now, users can only participate in the testnet for StarkNet projects.
We gathered the latest developments from StarkNet for you:
Solidity - The first version of the Cairo compiler Warp got released.
StarkNet Alpha 0.7.0 which includes features such as smart contract upgradability, block number and block time stamp, got released for mainnet.
The NFT Marketplace Oasis got announced.
Oiler network developed the StarkNet storage verifier.
The onchain governance Snapshot X got announced.
zkEVM Concept by Polygon
The Polygon Hermez team have been working on zkEVM for a while, which is a customized EVM for zkRollup for a while and they released the first documentation of the project’s structure.
This team working towards complete OPCODE compatibility, gives examples from the Fibonacci State Machine, Basic State Machine and the New Modular State Machine.
Throughout this zkEVM competition between zkRollups, It is vital that we pay close attention to Polygon. For more information you can check out blog post by Polygon.
