L2 Planet Focus: briq
In this Issue of L2 Planet 101 series, we focused briq which is a NFT building protocol on StarkNet.
What is briq?
briq is an NFT crafting and composability system on StarkNet which is based on fundamental elements called briqs. It is a system where users are free to design on-chain NFTs, but let's explore the details of the briq.
If we should explain it in simpler terms, we can say that building with briq is similar to building with Minecraft/Roblox that we are used to.
Block construction alone is not enough for a system. Here, briq stands out with some of the advantages it offers and what it wants to add to the ecosystem.
You can build or edit a structure as much as the briq tokens you have. The tokens that you had previously but added to the structure later on are transferred to the new buyer with the sale of that NFT. Also, you can always get the briqs back when disassembling an NFT built with briqs. Like with LEGO blocks. You can always get the materials back (which means that your NFT is always worth at least the materials it's made out of).
During the construction phase, maximum diversity will be achieved by using different colors (not only the scale of the platform but also the color palette can be edited), different blocks (this development will also be seen in the future).
As a simple example; Let's say you're playing an opensea-themed game. You want to build a ship with a certain special architecture to pass the level you are in, but you failed, and your close friend is very good at design. You have 150 briq tokens, and you need to use a minimum of 200 blocks for the structure you want to build. You can quickly filter out fundamental elements in the market to buy an NFT of the cheapest +50 blocks. Then you can remove all the blocks and randomly add 150 blocks to your ship and send them to your friend who is good at design. Thanks to these abilities, your friend can build and send back the ship that will easily accompany you in the game with these 200 pieces.
The reason for using the term 'fundamental elements' here is that the briq team states that in the future other projects will be able to add the structures of their projects to briq. Also, briq wants to help other projects build interoperable NFTs in briqs. For example, user @reviloTC has created a @LootRealms wonder with briq NFTs. Imagine if that construction was included in the Realms game.
Why should we care about briq?
briq always stores the value it has. This value may increase/decrease with the next buyer, so a briq that you see as dysfunctional can turn into something different with your design. The core value tool remains with the artist, who gives it a different dimension, rather than the NFT itself. It is not possible to jam the NFTs in a game that will be released on the platform, and it can be reset like a puzzle when necessary.
briq's basic format is JSON. This format is very easy to integrate with other games/platforms. briq can also export the models in .vox and .glb. This maximizes its interoperability.
The tokens used for briq can be easily diversified. For example, you are playing a game with an arctic theme and instead of standard bricks, snow blocks that will work in harmony in the game can be integrated into the system by the platform. This criterion is one of the critiques in briq's market, but this difference is a feature that can be seen over time. As StarkNet is still in Alpha, there is currently no example of a startup that supports it.
The main point of the system, says @Sylve co-founder of briq, is to create integrations between universes thanks to these natively interoperable NFTs.
Let's look at some prominent examples;

Start building with briq!
You are able to use briq right now by going on briq.construction, downloading the Argent X wallet and claim 1000 briq tokens. The full guide is here.
What about airdrop?🪂
Be patient :) Currently, the team has no such plans, but we recommend that you stay tuned.
That’s all from L2 Planet for now, hope to see you in other issues :)
